DAILY MONSTER 169

Good morning. How are you? Thank you for coming to visit the monsters on Day 01 of the new season. All of this month a new Daily Monster will be waiting for you every morning, including weekends. I hope you’ll have fun with the creatures, and if inspiration should strike you, I hope you’ll post a story or two. I’d like that.

Well… let me not make you wait. Please say Hello to Monster 169:

What’s this fellow’s story? Is he yelling or yawning? Is he hungry or just exhaling? Does he often cheat at bingo? Does he speak the monster lingo? Or is he just an inky gringo? On the most fundamental level: What’s this creature’s name-o? If you have the time, please take a few minutes and

Postyourstoryhere

I’m excited to see what you’ll come up with!

You may have noticed that the monsters have a theme song now. Daniel Holter of BurstLabs was very kind to remix this little gem especially for you. It’s called “Truck Stop Shoppin’ (Monsters Mix)” and was composed by Holter/Robertson. What do you think? (Check out the BurstLabs site sometime. They have a very cool, bubbly interface for their music library.)

I think this is going to be a fun month! Some very interesting beasts are eager to meet you, and I can’t wait to read what you’ll make of them. Why? Oh, come on… you know why! Because 344 LOVES YOU

The creature’s name is theethy Mc tooth. It is the boss of a world wide tooth brush and dentures factory for XXXXL monsters. Its grandma needed false theeth and she couldn’t
buy them. So the nice theethy Mc tooth invented monsterbrushes and the very first monsterdentures world wide.

Now this monster, is a monster with a humonguos thirst for adventure. He wanders the jungles searching for lost artifacts and hidden idols a la “Indiana Jones”. His latest adventure has taken him to a mysterious cave in the depths of Mexico. He is looking for an ancient statue. It is of the nearby Indian’s rain god. He looks in the cave, looking for booby traps. Suddenly an arrow goes flying past his head!
    APRIL FOOLS.
He is just a happy librarian who has never left Kansas. His name is Frank, but the kids call him “Happy”.

    She’s a HearthSprog…
Lives in the coalscuttle, and eats fire-lighters (hence the teeth)… normally her appetite only runs to half a fire-lighter (they ARE rather rich)… hence the jaggedly bitten-in-half remains one so often finds when making a fire.

Old Salt McOcean had just returned from a very long expedition to the Seastar Islands. These particular isles had gotten their name from the shape they were arranged in – it looked like a big seastar. McOcean and his crew of experienced sailors had had the order to list all living beings on these islands and look out for any monster civilization. McOcean had been very excited. When they took off from the small haven Utopia, he grinned from ear to ear while waving to his wife Ruthie, who waited at the dock until the ship had sailed into the setting sun.
They had reached the Seastar Islands after three days of sailing. The weather had been exceptionally good and McOcean was happy to be able to note down that nothing had happened – except for one seaman who almost fell from the ship after drinking too much rum. In front of the ship lay the islands, looking much like paradise. Most of them weren’t but a big rock with palm trees growing on top, the sea crushing its waves far below them on the solid rock. A sudden gust of wind blew the hair of the seamen into their eyes. McOcean hopped off the ship and landed heavily into the sand. What would wait for them on these islands far away from home?

He laughed hardy at Stenson. His surly mustache flexing as his lower jaw dropped with every booming guffaw. “That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve yet heard, you blathering idiot!” The mass of gelatinous, inky black rolling with laughter; Stenson stood in disbelief. The idea was flawless and with total merit. How could his boss not see it, the fool?
After composing himself when the hiccuping of chortles subsided, Stenson stood up and walked towards the door. “I’m sure others won’t be so arrogant with my idea. Consider this my two-weeks.”
Wiping a tear from his eye, Mr. Hatherton replied, “Feel free to pitch your useless concoction to whomever you like.” As the door slammed shut, Hatherton thumbed through his little address book and dialed an auspicious number. “Good afternoon, D. It appears I have a new job for you. One Jeremy Stenson has himself quite a lucrative idea he’ll like to bandy about town. Do see that I’m the only one that knows of it, won’t you. Payment as per usual. Good day.”

This monster,Zooglie, is a proud member of the Monsters With Spectacular Mustaches But No Noses club. He also has magnificent teeth which get him into the best of the monster dentist parties. This picture was taken just after he won the award for having the skinniest tooth at the Ceremony of the Teething. Even though Zooglie has won many awards, he is still shy about it. This is him blushing, but smiling for the picture.
P.S. Weee monsters!!! I do love them so

Chet Stromley wants so badly to get in shape. Unfortunately, his ma won’t foot the bill for the lap band. He watches Biggest Loser, but all he’s gotten out of that is an addiction to Subway sandwiches, Extra chewing gum and Ford Escape hybrids. If only he could get motivated. Maybe tomorrow.

notes to myself…as I stand my distance in my coat of armor..
while I have yet to encounter what the locals have named “monsters” I have had the unfortunate destiny to walk straight into the grassy lair of “Hungryharry McLazy” who is staring at me presently with his icy-cold glare….somebody throw him a bigmac and run…

Melvin, the Masked, was an unassuming kinda guy. Often mistaken for an executioner, he had come to accept that some people never look beyond what their eyes see. He always wore a smile and inside he was about as fierce as a toasted marshmallow.
This particular day, Melvin is headed to Public School 008, where he’s been hired as a janitor and part-time disciplinarian. At his last school, just the threat of his return has been enough to keep the order that he restored.
Melvin can’t understand why children unquestioningly behave whenever he’s around. (Don’t tell him that the teachers preface his appearance with tales of guillotines, nooses and instruments of torture!)
