DRAWING MONSTERS AT THE VILLAGE SCHOOL

Earlier today I got to draw Monsters for the students at the Village School in Pacific Palisades. I got a very kind reception by Ms. Mandel and about 300 of her students. After all this time, this may be my first positive memory of being in a school gym. Thank you! (Special thanks to Connor for joining me at the desk and drawing a cool Monster of his own, and to Ms. Mandel, Ms. McGowan, and Peter Culhane for putting it all in motion.)

Here are the Monsters that came through. I hope you’ll like them:

I’m sure I heard that second one when my car broke down on a very long and lonely road somewhere in Northern Queensland during the wet season.
It was pitch black, Vin Diesel was nowhere near, the water from the floods was lapping both sides of the bitumen, and I could hear that monster and friends buzzing in the dark.
I think they were discussing whether to eat me there or take me away.
This is one of the many stories I haven’t yet written for http://www.bearlybooks.com but there is one on driving in France which you may enjoy drawing a monster for.
Thanks for your drawings, I have always enjoyed Real Monsters and yours fit.

    Dear Mr. Bucher,
Thank you for coming to our school. We LOVE your monsters. We think the eyeballs are really big and cool. We liked how you can make the monster wink. You showed us how it is done. The bird monster’s neck is so thin, bendy and crazy. It was great to have you at Village School.

Ha! “Goat Thing in a Skirt” would be a great name for a lost David Bowie album. Or maybe Motörhead. :^D I’m glad you like it, Jordan. :^)

Hi again, Jordan. Thank you for posting such a kind note. A bird with fishnet leggings? You’re definitely tuned in to the Monster vibe. :^D Excellent! I’m glad you enjoyed my little drawing demonstration, and I hope you can rustle up some drawing supplies. Have fun!

Hi Jordan, I use Faber-Castell PITT artist pens, Prismacolor Premier pens, Staedtler pigment liners, Tombow ABT pens, Sharpies (fine point and wedge tip), Prismacolor Premier markers, and Yasutomo Sumi ink on regular old uncoated bond paper. I get it all at the Art Store.

Hi Jordan, that sounds like a cool drawing. Right now the section where you could post it isn’t working, but you can e-mail it to me if you like. :^)
