TUNES FOR TREES
Good afternoon. Longtime friend of the Monsters Yi-Shun sent me an interesting thing recently and I thought that I’d pass it along to you: It’s called Tunes For Trees
Here’s some information from their press release:
Use Tunes For Trees to search iTunes for music from your favorite artists and for every 10 tracks purchased, a tree is planted.
Tunes For Trees is an initiative of Live It Green an Illinois-based environmentally conscious company focused on making it convenient and simple to be more sustainable in our daily lives. Live It Green has partnered with Trees for the Future through their Plant a Tree Partnership Program and has committed to 2,000 trees for the initial launch. Trees for the Future is an organization that has been the steward of planting trees throughout the world since the early 1970’s and will plant our trees.
By utilizing iTunes, Tunes For Trees strives to make a difference through seamless integration of a service people already use everyday to plant more trees and reduce atmospheric greenhouse gas levels. Tunes for Trees⢠offers a web browser plug-in for both Microsoft Internet Explorer and Firefox.
Considering all the music I buy on iTunes every week, I could have my own little forest by now. The interface leaves something to be desired, and some albums I know are on iTunes don’t show up, but that’s OK. I’ll just buy those directly through iTunes. Maybe they still get a referral fee if I enter iTunes through their portal. Either way, this seems like a good thing to do, so I’m going to start doing it. It certainly isn’t a sacrifice and does no harm. Check it out if you have a minute. And remember 344 LOVES YOU
Never bought a music track in my life…in my country, we just copy what we want on our MP3 players free 😀 because piratery just keeps escaping the law, and we ordinary poor people don’t mind :D. But nevertheless this is a great way to spend money if you already can afford to buy music. You kill two flies in one swing, get yourself your fav music and help your environment. We still have a lot of trees in my city, thank god…
Once I start buying music on iTunes, I’ll be sure to use this. For now I’ll just refer it to my friends who do. Who will pay for all these trees though? And plant them? I wonder if they’re looking for any volunteers.

Thanks for all the great comments! I’m working with the Tunes for Trees people on another project, so I thought I’d pass it on to you. With that disclosure out of the way, I’m going to try and help answer some of these questions.
First, TunesforTrees.com is built to refresh itself every evening with the new stuff that appears on iTunes. I know there are some glitches with this, and I’m asking the folks to address them.
Second, the trees are planted by a group called Trees for the Future: http://www.treesftf.org
They’ve been planting trees since 1970 and do so primarily in areas that have been severely de-forested. At the moment, I dont’ see Tunes for Trees listed under the Partnerships page, and I’ll inquire to find out why.
As for Stefan’s question about the first step of entering the portal and buying songs that way even if you don’t find your album listed, I’ll inquire, and ask the folks at TunesforTrees.com to get back us.

Hi all,
First off thanks so much for the post! I am the co-creator of Tunes for Trees and wanted to make sure everyone has the right information on our site so as to tell all your friends about it!
First off, every track counts, whether you buy one or ten it doesn’t matter because we are counting worldwide purchases so every track is literally 1/10th of a tree in our book.
Regarding some tunes not showing up on itunes, not sure where the disconnect is but we are looking into it. However so long as you enter iTunes through our site you are helping our cause.
Lastly, it costs the exact same to buy through our portal as to buy directly through iTunes, the difference is we are using our ad revenue to plant trees. We don’t have an ad budget and are relying on good people like yourselves to spread the word about http://www.tunesfortrees.com.

I am truly amazed at the amount of trees that have already been planted by these guys. 2,000 in a little under two months is just amazing. It’s good to know that you don’t have to buy a full 10 tracks to benefit. Keep up the good work.
