Blow the ink with your finger. Add eyes and mouths and arms and pants from the over 150 elements in the PARTS palette–all of which I lovingly made by hand exclusively for this app. Or you can draw your own!

Pop up a speech bubble and make your monster say something profound.

You can even pose for a photo with your creature and post it to Facebook or Twitter right from inside the app!

99 cents well spent, don’t you think? If you have an Apple gizmo, I hope you’ll give it a try and post a review!

I have to give a big, huge shout-out to Dominik Wei-Fieg of Ars Subtilior who spent ludicrous amounts of time building and fine-tuning this beauty. On top of that he patiently addressed exactly 222 e-mails from me in a five month period. I couldn’t have done this without him. (At all! I know this. I tried.) Check out his other apps.

A great big Thank You also to Bruce, Marian, and Ze for their expert beta-testing and their great ideas, which made the whole thing immeasurably better. And lastly, many thanks to Linda for the beautiful demo photos!

OK! Please… get the app! Let a million monsters bloom! I hope you have a ball!

Even in the multi-touch display world 344 LOVES YOU

    YES.
Cannot WAIT to get home, and buy this puppy for my iPad.
    SO EXCITED!

Ha! Sweet! Thank you, Amanda. I hope you'll have fun with it when you do!
Thank you for being an early adopter! :^)

Apps like this honestly makes me really bitter toward Apple users and app creators. I don’t have an iPhone or iPad, I won’t be buying one, but I’d like to use stuff like this.

Which I totally understand, Heather. It's just the gear I have and am familiar with. If the app takes off enough, I'll surely make an Android version, too. In the meantime, I'm sorry to have this be something exclusionary. :^\

Sweet! That's a cool, and authoritative Monster, James! Thank you. I'm glad
you're diggin' the app! (And if you would have paid way more, maybe gift the
app to a few friends? Spread the joy? :^)

I love the app I got it for my iPhone and my iPad. Already made a bunch of fun monsters. My only concern is that it seems to save but I can’t manage to access the save files (will automatically save as monster_1, the save to photos works fine). my friends love the monsters so hopefully they will be downloading app soon.

Hi Peluna, First of all, thank you for getting the app, for telling your
friends, and for your kind words. I'm glad you're having fun with it.
So, yes, right now the saved Monsters aren't editable. Dominik and I are
looking into the possibility of letting you save Monsters in progress and
having them be editable in the future. Right now the only workaround is to
save your Monsters as images, load those into the background via the camera
function, and then draw/compose on top of that image.

I am quickly becoming a monster junkie with this app. Am gifting it to a couple friends and also posted it on Facebook. Thanks so much for sharing these little guys with us! I put a little slimy one on my husband’s cereal spoon yesterday. 🙂

Ha! That's excellent, Elisabeth! I'm so happy to hear you're having fun (AND
spreading the love!) Thank you so much! :^)

Awesome. Did you know that you started the Daily Monster on the zodiac sign of Scorpio?

  • 9 May 2012 8:02 pm

You know, I did not notice it. But it was near my grandma's birthday, and she was a Scorpio. What does that mean for the Monsters?

Again, Stefan, congratulations for bringing all this into reality.
Your app is lots of fun for kids and bigger monsters… like us. O )
Thank you and please keep doing fantastic things like that!

My students are really enjoying your videos and the app. I was wondering if there were any updates on making saved monsters editable?

  • 6 October 2015 11:22 am

Boy, are you asking on the right day, Shari! The mythical 2.0 just went live, so the update should already be waiting for you!

    Why still no android……….. 🙁

    • 15 December 2019 12:08 pm

Hi Dominic, it’s a regret of mine, too. I lack both an Android developer and the money to pay that person. I hope that one day there will be a software solution that allows for relatively easy porting between platforms. One day…
